René Alvarez Mäkelä
René Alvarez Mäkelä is a spanish artist that lives and works in Palma de Mallorca, in his Santa Catalina studio. His creative universe is involved in Pop icons and his inspiration feeds through common places, fashion, street scenes, books, movies, television or the musical world to create each one of his pieces and convert them in a unique piece of Pop and Street Art.
In his large format canvas he uses oil paint, acrylics and different textures that creates a big impact. His Pop icon series was a succes reaching critics and the public highlighting the succes of the fluor colors in his portraits. His work has been exposed in galleries of L.A (California) Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Madrid and Barcelona.
His satiric world; mix of hyperrealism and street art, cartoons, and other art expressions has been recognized in many publications and galleries.
René has a degree in Advertising and he has worked as a screenwriter in the most important enterntainment shows in spanish tv. Contact with the mass media and popular culture has influenced his work and led him to create high impact works, fusing his realistic vision with todays pop culture.
