A beautiful oil painting of an autumn landscape by Allen Gilbert Cram. The artist was an American painter known for his colorful landscapes depicting the times of his generation. This painting is a wonderful example of his work from the prime of his career. The painting depicts a vibrant autumn landscape where the artist captures a plein air scene of ranch life in the southwest. The scene features a rolling hillside covered with a mix of green, yellow, orange, and red foliage. In the meadow, the viewed can find scattered rocks and the iconic fences, also trees, including prominent evergreens, stand amidst the colorful foliage, adding texture and depth. A semi-cloudy sky with soft blue and white hues stretches above. The thick paint is noted with gestural brush strokes creating this marvelous view, with bold and expressive brushstrokes, giving the painting a lively, impressionistic feel. This painting is signed by the artist lower left, and it comes housed in an original gold tone plein air style antique wood frame with hanging wire on the verso ready to be displayed.
Condition: The artwork's board have some minor wear on the corners, probably from the plein air easel and ordinary wear from age, otherwise, the painting and its frame are in very good condition for the time period (please see listing pictures for the details).
