A masterful oil painting depicting a harbor scene by British American artist John Clymer, with a view of a sailboat, and a large masted ship on the water and the village in the distance. As an Impressionist painter, he was known for his pastoral landscapes depicting scenes from daily life; notably provincial French towns. He also created numerous views of city life during his stays in Paris. The colors are vibrant yet soft, with a mix of soft whites, blues, and hints of orange, raw sienna and raw amber in water and sky, which is reminiscent of Alfred Sisley's plein-air landscapes. This piece is an excellent example of the works produced during the 1950's with use of a rich color pallet and layers of paint giving this work such a stunning representation of country life. The way he uses flecks of light dashed onto the water to emulate reflections and the brilliant blue sky, creates a joy for the viewer to experience. This work is signed lower left and comes housed in a gold tone wood frame with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.
