A vibrant impressionistic still life depiction by Martha Walter of a wonderful summer scene by a picnic table. A turquoise bowl, a glass bottle, a drinking glass, cups, a cola bottle, ceramic bowls with floral patterns, a large woven basket, a crumpled red-and-blue patterned napkin, and two elegant white lilies are executed with bold petals and exciting brushwork. The bold colors and strong contrasts make Walter's work so striking and captivating. The composition feels casual and lived-in, capturing a sunlit outdoor scene against a lush background, with dense green forest with dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves, creating a rich natural backdrop. Walter’s loose, expressive brushwork and bright color palette emphasize light, texture, and atmosphere, beautifully contrasting with the cool tones of the ceramics and glassware against the warm greens of the foliage, evoking a joyful, summery mood typical of early 20th-century American Impressionism. The painting is signed lower right and comes housed in a museum-quality ornate gold-tone wood frame with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.
