A beautiful oil on canvas painting by American artist Maurice Monnard. Monnard was a Post-Impressionist painter known for his colorful cityscapes depicting the times of his generation. His work is comparable to those of Renoir, Jules Herve and Mary Cassatt. This painting is a wonderful example of his work from the prime of his career. Depicting a vivid scene from the Plague in Paris during the 20th Century; a crowded beach with figures on the sand and white puffed clouds that hug the sky. The pastoral colors and impressionistic brushwork is done with both whimsey and boldness. The painting is signed lower right and comes housed in a robust elaborate wood carved gold tone frame with linen liner and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.
Condition: The painting has some some light wear from age and is in overall in excellent condition, it comes displayed in an original antique frame that shows some ordinary wear, scuffs from age, and minor imperfections in line with the manufacturing period.
