This stunning piece of The Lieutenancy, a prestigious building which sits at the entrance to the Vieux Bassin de Honfleur, which is a true witness to the history of the Norman port, spanning the centuries and quite simply the oldest building in the town, is a captivating original work by renowned artist Pierre Boudet. Boudet was mostly known for his playful and sophisticated paintings executed with bold use of paint and sporadic, yet controlled brushwork. With beautiful luminous light and colors, this painting is a wonderful example of his work from the prime of his career, it features beautiful multi-color hues that depict the charming docks with a gray toned sky and blue hued boats. His wonderful use of light and shadow in a pointillist style is exhibited beautifully as we can feel the time of day and the atmosphere.
