This painting was executed during his stay in Paris, where he packed much detail throughout. A lively Parisian scene depicted with a textured brushwork in an impressionistic style, capturing the lively essence of the moment, where figures are portrayed with utmost detail, as you can feel the time of this piece effortlessly. We are instantly drawn back to the time of the Late 20th Century effortlessly as we discover all the incredible details with his characteristic color palette of warm, earthy tones contrasted with the bright hues of the clothing and foliage. The sky above is a mix of blue with scattered clouds, and the street is filled with figures walking, and some are seated at the cafe sidewalk, and others are engaged in various activities, creating a vibrant, crowded atmosphere. The Paris captured in this piece is the city of poetry, the “City of Lights”. Two white horses and a carriage are found trotting along the street as the thick paint and gestural brush strokes are noted through out. The café is adorned with large terracotta pots filled with flowers, and in the center, a grand, multi-story building with arched windows and a weathered facade dominates the background. The painting is a pertinent example of this, as he championed his brushwork with much fascination and love for the city of lights. This piece is signed lower right by the artist, and it comes housed in a beautiful gold tone frame and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.
