A beautiful oil on canvas painting by the French artist, Jean Salabet. Salabet was a Parisian painter known for his colorful cityscapes depicting the times of his generation. His work is comparable to those of Jules Herve, Antoine Blanchard, and Edouard Cortes. This painting is a wonderful example of his work from the prime of his career, with the artist's masterful use of light and shadow creating depth and atmosphere. This painting is a Post-Impressionist street scene of the Place du Tertre in the Montmartre district of Paris, a busy street scene filled with life on a sunny day, with people walking alongside the bustling streets of Paris. Figures are depicted throughout the streets, and the lights from the cafes and stores flicker and reflect on the wet ground, illuminating the scene in a magical way. In the background, the iconic white domes and bell tower of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica dominate the skyline under an overcast sky, enhancing the scene's ambiance. Salabet's signature style uses a diverse and vibrant color palette, blending warm earth tones with cool blues and grays. His impressionistic brushwork creates a sense of movement and atmosphere, effectively conveying the excitement and charm of a busy day in Paris. The details are magnificent as Salabet captures the architecture of Paris so beautifully; you can feel the energy of the day and the excitement. This painting is signed by the artist lower left and it comes housed in an original antique hand-carved wood frame with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.

Condition: The painting has some light wear from age, as well as minor craquelure and cockling of the canvas, with a few scattered areas of minor in-paint in the sky and upper edge. Otherwise, this piece and its frame are in very good condition for the period.
