A charming Parisian scene oil on canvas painting by the French artist, Johannes Schiefer. This painting is a wonderful example of his work from the prime of his career. Capturing a vibrant yet serene street scene in Paris, evoking the charm of the city's historic boulevards, drawing the eye toward the iconic white dome of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica perched on the hill of Montmartre. The sky is done with a pale, hazy blue with wispy white clouds, and the figures are walking down the streets passing by the storefronts, café, and boutiques, with an abundance of color and life popping against the muted tones. On the sidewalks, the lamps with globe fixtures stand sentinel, and on mid-street, automobiles from the era and bicycles add a touch of everyday motion. The painting's surface appears textured with visible impasto, blending an Impressionist style with a soft, loose brushwork that captures the play of light on surfaces. The magic is being felt with all the magnificent details, as Schiefer captures the architecture of Paris so beautifully; you can feel the energy of the day and the excitement. The piece is signed by the artist lower right and titled lower left, it comes housed in a wonderful antique gold tone giltwood frame with linen liner and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.
Condition: The painting is in very god condition with light wear from age and a stretcher bar mark along upper section, it comes displayed in an antique frame that shows ordinary wear from age and minor imperfections (please see listing pictures for details).
