A stunning depiction by Jacques Bouyssou of a lively French summer scene, featuring boats moored on the water with sails in the distance on a Sunday, set against the banks of the Marne. Several colorful rowboats are moored and being prepared along the dock, while some children play along the sandy path near the water's edge, and adults dressed in colorful attire converse in the crowded riverside windmill café. In the distance, a few sailboats with white sails glide gently, while their reflections shimmer in the water painted with loose, dappled brushstrokes of blue, green, and pale tones. At a distance, we find some hazy low mountains under a bright blue sky with soft clouds, while the trees envelop the scene with lush canopies filled with the new and bright green leaves. A charming, colorful European view of the Marne. Bouyssou was mostly known for his playful and highly trained hand in paintings executed with thick use of paint and sporadic, yet controlled brushwork. His wonderful use of light and shadow is beautifully exhibited, allowing us to effortlessly feel the time of day and atmosphere. This painting is signed lower left and comes displayed in a stunning gold-tone frame with linen liner and hanging wire on verso.
