François Gall was known for his impressionistic scenes of the 20th Centruy, portraying the French Lifestyle of that nostalgic era. Scenes depicting popular locations of the plague in Europe, portraits of dancers, and intimate depictions of figures in restaurants, or in homes. We are reminded of the great French impressionists such as Edgar Degas, Boudin, and Renoir. This painting is a tremendously vivid and alive scene from Paris in the 20th Century, depicting a crowded beach scene with figures on the sand. The pastoral colors and impressionistic brushwork is done with both whimsey and boldness.
